Dear Ellison, Whoohoo! I love that you want to write your own stories and like the Mermaid Tales. Do you have a favorite? Have you seen the newest one, Fairy Chase?

Dear Huria, here's a checklist of what to do if you'd like to write for a MerStyle magazine. Have fun! Best, Debbie

1. Write a short piece about the mer-world. It might be a list, fashion tips, or a paragraph about an ocean creature. You can even draw a picture. Read the existing magazines to get ideas. Each of them are based on books in the Mermaid Tales series, where you can get other ideas.

2. After you’ve made sure it is your best work, ask an adult to send it to https://www.debbiedadey.com/Contact/index.php. They must state their permission for you to send it and have it published. Only your first name will be published.

3. Remember that your work may be edited. That means the editor may have to fix spelling mistakes or take out some words to make it fit in the magazine. By sending in your piece, you agree to this.

4. There is no payment for being in a MerStyle magazine, but it can be a publishing credit!

5. Have fun!

Dear Jackeline, Perhaps you should try the Mermaid Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots Tales. I am sorry that Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots gave you a nightmare! I don't recommend the Bailey School Kids books for you, except maybe Santa Claus Doesn't Mop Floors.

Dear Huria, It is tough to publish a book, so you might like to start with a shorter story. Here is a Storyworks Jr. Contest that you might like to try. It would be great fun if you'd like to write a short article or tips to put in the next MerStyle magazine. Two girls have already send things in. You could make a short story if you'd like and send it here with a parent or guardian's permission to publish it. Or you might just like to write for fun! Best, Debbie
