School's out for summer!  At least it is for my kids.  How about you?  Greetings to Mpali from Thailand.  My husband's brother used to live in Thailand.  Is it summer in Thailand or is it always warm there?  Do you go to school all year long?  Brittany, in the summer I like to hike, write, go to the pool, and play outdoors with my kids.  This summer I will be busy moving and going to Greece on a vacation.  I am excited about that because I have never been there.  Hello to Zoe from Bosnia, Holly, Amanda, Mora, Ruchi, Mariyam, Kevin, and Ying Shing.  Good luck Kevin-take care of yourself.

Kevin!!  I write the words and the publisher hires people to put the book together.  The artist is actually working on the pictures for Mrs. Jeepers Creepy Christmas right now.  I do have some sketches that my editor sent me that John Steven Gurney had given her.  I'll see if I'm allowed to put them on the site.  Michaela, it's supposed to be out in November.

Melanie and Kevin, thanks for your birthday wishes.  Now, I'm really old!!  Happy birthday to Dora.

Medaya, please look in the Swamp Club for lots of information about me for your report.  There's even a cool form to print off.  Also, there's more info in the Events section in About Us.  Ashley, look in my Events section too for information about having me visit your school, but I do have to be invited by an adult.  It'd be great to visit Florida-especially during the winter!  Emma, the first thing I do before writing is to brainstorm different things I could put in my story.  I just say what about this, what about that and I write it all down.  Then I pick the things that I think would be the most fun to put into my story.

Grace, yes I do include some fairy tale creatures in some of my stories.  I do it just for fun.  You can try it yourself.  Pick a fairytale creature and write a whole new story for that character.  (Kind of like Shrek 3.)

Katelyn, I do have three dogs.  They like to snooze on the floor of my office when I'm writing stories.  You may have noticed I like to put dogs in my stories.  My newest book, The Worst Name in Third Grade, has a dog named Bobo in it.  Have a great week, Debbie

Dear Readers,
Wow! I spent a lot of time answering snail mail fan letters yesterday. Almost half of the letters asked what was in the box in Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots. Kids wanted to know if it was really a coffin in Mrs. Jeepers' basement. I can tell you that the answer to that question is in the next Bailey School Kids book, Mrs. Jeepers Creepy Christmas. It comes out in November.

Callie and Amy asked if I could visit their school. Of course, I'd love to do so, but I have to be invited by an adult. They can check out the event section of my site.

Ying Shing asked me if I could put a Chinese girl in a story. Ying Shing, Jeff in Ghostville Elementary is Asian, but I will certainly keep your request in mind.

Greetings to Amanda, Mora, Kasey, Danielle, Bernabe, Javon. Jodan, Griffin, Isaiah, Valerie, Brittany, Chelsie, Treasure, and Rebecca. Danielle, I'm glad you like Ghost Class. Nice to hear from Lila from France. Did you read my books in French or English?

Lis, check out my Swamp Club for information for your report. I was married 24 years ago. My mom was born in 1936 (I hope she doesn't mind me telling). My oldest son is 20. My first book came out in 1990. Wyatt, I've written 132 books. Wyatt, I just made up the name Bridgett Butt in The Worst Name in Third Grade, although people do have that last name. How would you like to have that name?

Briana and Caitlin, I'm glad you like my books. Sienna, good luck with your writing. Kevin, keep up the awesome reading. Immanuel, maybe you can ask your librarian to get more of my books. Caroline, happy sweet 16!

Jocelyn, I can't tell you what the sound is from Whistler's Hollow, but I can tell you that it really happened. I hope you read the book. Yes, Brielle I still plan to write when I move. That may be quicker than I thought if all works out well. On Friday, I'm excited to be visiting Garfield School in Loveland, Colorado. Isn't that a nice name? Loveland? It's definitely not the worst name in third grade!

I had something happen to me this week that reminded me of the power of prayer. If you have something hard in your life, you might want to try it.
Take care and be at peace with the universe,
Debbie

Fun, fun, fun.  That's what I've been having.  My mom and aunt visited so we shopped, ate, went to Estes Park, and the Avery House (a historic house in Northern Colorado).

I also went to the CAL banquet where The Great Green Gator Graduation won the 2007 Colorado Authors' League Award for Children's Fiction.  Kasey, I got a plaque and a check!  It was cool!  (Most of my books are with Scholastic and my husband is named Eric.)

I also visited Shepardson Elementary and hung out with some awesome kids there.  Thanks Mrs. Stolte for inviting me!  And thanks to Kate and Jack for wishing me a happy birthday.  Yes, Friday is my birthday!  Thanks to Ethan and Sydney for their fun ideas.  Yes, my books are at bookstores, but I heard the Fort Collins Barnes and Noble ran out of my books, so go to the Loveland Barnes and Noble or to the new Readers' Cove bookstore near Sam's Club in Fort Collins.  Or you can order directly from the book section of my website (with your parent's help, of course). Abby, just give the book to Alex to bring home for an autograph.  Haneen, Aliens Don't Carve Jack-o-lanterns is dedicated to Patrick.

Today I visit some kids at Laurel Elementary.  We're going to talk about the Worst Name in Third Grade.  If you think your name is bad, you should definitely read this book.  Britanny, Maijam, and Annie I'm glad you liked it.  Yes, it's officially released in bookstores in June, but my editor tells me they may have it already.  Brittany, I'm curious what your Debbie Dadey contest is going to be about.

Of course, I'd love to visit your schools.  Vanessa and anyone else interested, I have to be invited by a teacher or parent or principal.  Louis, I hope you like Dragons Don't Cook Pizza.  Danielle, I've never eaten a lot of crab.  I'll have to try it.

Melanie, how much an author makes depends on how many books they sell.  I grew up in Henderson, KY.  That's where my book, Whistler's Hollow, takes place too.  Nereyda and Dana, it's hard to pick a favorite, because I like all my books.  But Ghouls Don't Scoop Ice Cream and Skeletons Don't Play Tubas are definitely two of my favorite BSK books.

Chip, how neat that you wrote.  Yes, believe it nor not I held you as a baby in Romania.  I'm so thrilled that you have read my books.

Greetings to Amanda and Mora, Noah, Thomas, Danielle, Haclecya, Kelsey, Jacqueline, Ethan, Jonathan,  and Mindy.  Lis and Kasey, don't forget to check out the Swamp Club for stuff for your report.

Are you counting down the days until school is out?  My daughter is.  Enjoy seeing your friends and teachers while you can, summer is coming!  See you later, I'm going to work on the copyedits for Mrs. Jeepers Creepy Christmas.
Best, Debbie

Here I am sitting at home typing on my computer and I'm saying hi to kids all over the world.  How cool is that?

Greetings to Haclecya in Australia and Manula (and Mrs. S.) in British Columbia.  Haclecya, I'm coming to World Youth Day next summer in Australia.  Of course I'd love to visit your school as well as Jayce's.  Yes Jayce, there are 51 numbered BSK books, but there are a bunch of Super Specials and Holiday Specials.

Danna and Alexis, I was born in 1959 in Kentucky.  Katelyn, thanks for your ideas.  The first BSK idea came from a really bad day at the school where I taught.  Kevin, check out Mrs. Zork at http://debbiedadey.com/upload/draw_along_with_mrs._zork.pdf  in the Swamp Club.  Every month for the next year we're going to add more drawing activities. Sorry, I don't give out my private email address. It's just for my editor to ask me to write more books!

Kevin!!  Glad you like my books.  You're cool.

Xavier, my bio is in my hardback books, like Whistler's Hollow and Cherokee Sister.
Hi to Lacey, Alejandro, Annie, Amanda, and Mora.  Annie, I hope you liked The Worst Name in Third Grade.  Do you think I should write another book about Bridgett?

Grant, you are an awesome big brother!!  Danielle, I'm glad your SwampMonster Grandma had fun at writing night.  Thanks so much for your funny ideas.

hope you like the Swamp Monster in Third Grade book.

My mom and my aunt are coming to visit this week.  My aunt lives in Kansas and my mom lives in Kentucky.  They both used to teach school.  Maybe I'll learn something this week!

Stay cool, Debbie

Happy May Day!  The countdown has begun to the end of school!  Can you feel the excitement?  Summer is just around the corner, but first I get to visit some schools.  This week I'll be in Cheyenne, Wyoming having some fun at Rossman Elementary.

My webmasters have been magically adding things to my site.  Check out the Swamp Club .  There's wallpaper you can add to your computer screen.  There are a bunch of different choices-you can even pick your favorite Bailey School Kids character.  Also, there's a new trivia game.  Some of the questions are easy-but some are hard!  How well do you REALLY know the Bailey School kids books?  And don't miss the new DRAWING WITH MRS. ZORK section and Werewolf fun .  Carley, Brittany, and Oyin can check the Swamp Club for help with your book reports.

Brittany, I'd love to visit Canada again.  Just get your teachers to invite me.  You can snail mail me at 557 Broadway New York, NY 10012.

Nicole and Caroline, the next Bailey School Kids book will be Mrs. Jeepers Creepy Christmas and it answers the question of exactly what is in the box in Mrs. Jeepers' basement!

Kevin, you are on a roll with your awesome first chapter.  As for help with writing I'm working on adding a writing section to this site.  Keep your eyes out for it.  I'm slow so it will probably take me a while.

SchoolDogsOllie, you might like to try one of my Barkley School for Dogs books.

Hello to Amanda, Lauren, Lolli, Sarah, and Abby.  Amanda, just get your teachers to invite me to come to your school.  Lauren, you rock too!

Voilanut, check recent postings for the outline to The Worst Name in Third Grade.  I'll see if I can dig up a BSK outline for you.  Marybeth, I've written and sold about 132 books.

Cory, I love to read.  I think that's why I wanted to write.  Lauren, I had fun at your school.  I will consider writing a sequel to Whistler's Hollow.  Thank you for asking.  Enjoy the first of May and wish me luck on selling my house.

Here's a quote for you:  "Shoot for the moon, at the very least you'll land among the stars."  Les Brown

Take care, Debbie
