Holy Toledo! Can you believe it's almost Thanksgiving? Are you ready for a vacation from school? My kids get off the whole week! Watch out for ninjas stealing your pumpkin pie. As for parents stealing Halloween candy, I can only offer one suggestion. Frances, maybe if you put your candy away your dad won't be tempted! I tell my son to hide his!
Noah, Troy, and Michelle-a big hello to you. Kate, I hope you have great weather for camping. You sound like an amazing reader. I'm so happy you liked Skeletons Don't Play Tubas. I like the scene where they hear noises in the hallway and get scared.
Molly, my husband just got back from a business trip to Boston. Hope you have fun there. Christina, my husband has a Harley Davidson motorcycle and he takes me for rides sometimes. I used to have a scooter, but I sold it. I'd love to get a Christmas card from you. You can send it to me at Scholastic 557 Broadway Ny, NY 10012.
Carly, I am very excited about my new series, Mermaid Tales. I have written four books so far: Trouble at Trident Academy, Battle of the Best Friends, Whale of a Tale, and Danger at Trident Academy (that last title may change it's name). I can't wait until it comes out.
Next Monday I'll be visiting Asa Packer Elementary. I look forward to seeing you guys. Have a great Monday, Debbie

Carly, you know I love mermaids and merfolks. Hi Rebecca, do you know my daughter and mom have your name too? If you live in PA., or NJ or close by, I hope you'll stop by the Family Reading Festival tomorrow from 10:00 to 2:00 to meet me. The Festival is at the Fairlane Village Mall in Pottsville, PA. ttyl, Debbie

Hi Christina, maybe you should ask your librarian to order more of my books! You can tell her I suggested it since they were all checked out. I handed out lots of candy for Halloween, but I was a biker in a leather jacket at a party the night before.
Brandon, the idea of Eddie came from lots of kids that I've known and taught (and even a little bit from me!). I was born in 1959 so I'm pretty sure I won't be having any more babies! Gricell, I like all my characters but Eddie really is fun to write about. Joan, I'm so glad you like my books. Is Mrs. Jeepers Creepy Christmas your favorite? Happy All Souls Day, Debbie

Dear Alicia, your email came back undelivered so I'm answering it here in the hopes you will see it. Here are the answers to your questions: I have three children: 15, 18, and 25. I love to write because anything can happen in a story and it's fun to create new adventures. I do believe in Jesus and I'm very grateful for all my blessings. Like everyone, I've had some bad times but God has seen me through them. I visited Germany a few years ago and found it much like where I live now-Pennsylvania.
Abby, I start out by making a plan of what will happen first, second, and so on in my stories. I do this by brainstorming and thinking of all the possiblities. I think about what my characters will be like and where the story will take place. Then I just start writing. After I'm at a good stopping point, I rewrite, rewrite, rewrite. I hope you'll watch my video telling how I write my stories.
Carly, I do think Coach Waterford is a mermaid, do you? Mr. Jenkins is still waiting to get his ship. Can you tell I like mermaids-check out the picture of my new series-coming in 2012. Hope you had a great Halloween. I was a biker! ttyl, Debbie

Happy Halloween! Hope you have a haunting good day! Christina, I'm sure you'll rock as a clown. Caroline, I'm so glad you like my books. Would you make a good mermaid character? Andrew, not sure what you mean about references for characters. Perhaps this link will help. Alex, love your idea! I do like writing about Frankenstein. Madyson, I'm glad you liked The Bride of Frankenstein Doesn't Bake Cookies. Maybe you'd both enjoy Frankenstein Doesn't Slam Hockey Pucks. Got to go, suddenly I'm hungry for a cookie, Debbie
